Halloween Costume Ideas

Remember the good ol’ days when we used to get dressed up for Halloween with friends and actually be social? It was one of my favourite things to do. I would search on Pinterest for probably hours, trying to get inspiration for what to be. Then my friends and I would put on Halloween movies, and make our costumes together. It was SUPER fun, especially because we would have just finished our exams. Since my fiance (then boyfriend) would come out with us too, we would try and do costumes that would work both in a group, and as a couples costume.

Most of ours we used a tutu - an easy tutorial on how to make it is here, all you need is tulle, and an elastic waistband or string, everything was really easy to find at Michael’s. So here are some DIY costume inspo, enjoy!

1) Sesame Street - Cookie Monster
Ok this was overall a fun costume, I was cookie monster (if you couldn’t tell), my friends were Elmo and Bird, and Mario was a cookie (always lookin like a snack).

- Tutu
- Headbands: Amazon
- Blue dress (or skirt)
- Cookies for fun props

This was more of an assembly costume, just putting on the headband, dress, tutu on top, adding some cookies, and viola.

2) Monsters Inc. - Mike Wazowski

So this I made entirely myself, and I was pretty proud of it! I got almost everything from Michael’s

- Tutu
- Felt (black and white)
- Headband with horns: Hot Topic
- Green t-shirt
- Giant googly eye

Headband: I wrapped the felt around the headband to make the little horns, you can honestly get it anywhere I just found a white pair at Hot Topic.

Shirt: I cute a smile shape with the black felt, and teeth with the white felt. I stuck the eye right in the middle with a glue gun.

3) Disney Princesses - Aladdin & Jasmine
Alright so I kind of cheated on this costume and borrowed my friend’s Jasmine costume for the top and the headband, threw on another tutu (it was actually Sully’s from the above costume) - there you have it.

For Mario’s Aladdin costume, I was impressed at how easy I was able to put it together

- Hat: Hot Topic (it was a Dr. Who Fez from , here’s a similar one from amazon)
- Vest is a piece of purple silky fabric with arm holes cut into it
- White sweatpants
- Adidas slides

4) When in doubt…
throw on a pair of animal ears and get creative! Here was a costume Mario and I threw on to hand out candy last year - a mouse and cheese! I just wore leggings and mouse ears, and he had a yellow t-shirt that we cut out black circles on construction paper. Easy peasy and cheesy!
